First steps. First words. First homes.

Melissa Nelson has witnessed them all. Perhaps that's why she takes such pride and care in focusing on what matters most to her real estate clients throughout the First Coast.

Priorities are important to us. After all, that’s what makes them “priorities.” Whether it’s our families, our careers, the lifestyles we live or the communities we call home, these are the things that drive us to make the most of each day.

Melissa enjoys any chance to spend quality time with her family. They are her inspiration to be her best every day.

The Ideal Setting
Perhaps it’s only fitting that this area is known as “Florida’s First Coast.” After all, this is a place built on timeless values of family and community, full of people who understand the importance of putting first things first—people much like longtime resident Melissa Nelson.

For Melissa personally, priority number one has always been her family, which includes three grown children and several grandchildren. Someone who always enjoys making the most of life, she loves traveling and working around her home and garden.

Learning to Prioritize
Born and raised in New York, Melissa moved to South Florida to attend college. She holds a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University, a Master's degree in education from the University of North Florida and doctoral studies in psychiatric rehabilitation at the University of Florida-Gainesville. For years, she taught Math and English to high risk teenagers while earning her Master's degree in exceptional child education. It was a busy and often harrowing time of her life, but also one of great personal growth for Melissa. "I learned to prioritize," she says. "While
juggling children, an education and a budding career, it was important for me never to forget what mattered most."

Striving for the Best
Melissa later took a position as Director of Rehabilitation at a regional mental hospital, which provided even more professional and personal growth. Working with the mentally ill and managing her staff reinforced the importance of patience, ethics and taking the time to understand the needs of her patients and her staff.

Making a Lasting Impact
As evidenced by her teaching experience and hospital work—not to mention her commitment to her own family—it’s safe to say Melissa is the type of person who thrives on making a difference in the lives of those around her. Perhaps it’s only fitting that when she became a real estate professional back in 1986, she was able to make an immediate impact in the industry.

A real nature lover, Melissa loves both worktime and playtime in her garden.
...
By taking the time to listen to her clients, researching the market inside and out and staying focused on what matters most to her clients and their families every step of the way, Melissa strives to provide a high level of real estate service with a distinctly personal touch. “I never forget this is a people business,” she says. “Every day, I’m working one-on-one with people and helping them reach for their dreams. That’s not a responsibility I take lightly, and I’m committed to doing whatever it takes to make great things happen for each of my clients.”

For nearly two decades, people throughout the First Coast have counted on Melissa to provide expert guidance and personalized care. She always puts the needs of her clients first, and when it comes to your home purchase or sale, your priorities are her priorities.
